Updated: Burglars’ break-in plan for Hebden Bridge store go up in smoke
Firefighters were originally called to the One Stop store on Crown Street at 2am to reports of a building fire.
Appliances from Todmorden and Mytholmroyd stations attended and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building. But when inside they found that a smoke cloak - an anti-intruder device which fills a room up with smoke to make it impossible to see - had gone off. There was nobody in the building.

Police said they escaped with “nothing of any significant value”.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police were called to reports of a burglary shortly after 2am this morning at the One Stop shop on Crown Street, Hebden Bridge.
“The suspects, believed to be three men wearing face coverings, have gained entry through the front door of the property but appear to have fled the scene after the alarm, which included a smoke emitting device, was activated.
